TikTok Unveils the Number of Users in the US

You might have already heard about the scandal that has arisen in the US and its main participants: TikTok and the US President, Donald Trump, that wants to shut down the social network because of conspiracies that say they share personal information with the Chinese Government. There is also a lawsuit going on and numbers are being unveiled.

100 million TikTok users in the US

In the lawsuit going on, TikTok has revealed how many monthly and daily users are in the US and the numbers are: 100 million monthly users, out of which, 50 million daily ones.

Since 2018, TikTok has grown by 800% in what installs and uses are concerned. And here’s the user growth by year:

  • 2018: 11 million monthly users;
  • 2019: 27 million monthly users;
  • 2020: 91 million monthly users in June.

And until now, numbers might just show 100 million active users per month.

With those numbers and this growth, it might be difficult to just ban the social network in the US, but it depends on what arguments both sides bring to the table.

TikTok representatives say that the ban of the social networks – if no companies in the US will buy it and comply with Trump’s requests – that 10.000 jobs in the US will disappear. The deadline for the executive order signer by President Trump on September 15, meaning that if Microsoft or Oracle don’t buy the social network, the latter one might be banned for real.

TikTok says that the data breach concerned is unfounded and that they take good care of the US’s users data storing it outside their motherland, China.

Global numbers

As for the global TikTok community, here are the numbers:

  • 700 million monthly users worldwide.

And its growth has been from 54 million monthly active users back in 2018 to 700 million this month.

Of course, it is not easy to compete with Facebook, and they still have a lot to catch up, but it is not impossible.
