Instagram representatives announced a new feature that is to come to Instagram and that copies Snapchat again: the disappearing text messages.
This new Instagram Disappearing Messages feature could engage users to share their stories more often with others, being more confident if the messages will disappear after the chat is closed.
As for the disappearing features, Instagram has implemented back in 2018 the disappearing photo and video messages and allow each user to choose who can replay and who cannot replay what they received. Or what to stay within the chat and what not. So there is a precedent in what the disappearing feature is concerned.
Facebook also has this feature on Messenger. In order to create a disappearing chat, you must create a new chat window with the person you want to talk and set is as a disappearing one.
How does Instagram Disappearing Messages work?
If you will want to start a disappearing conversation, you will have to go to the Direct Messages tab first – of course.
Select the person you want to talk to and then swipe up. You will be taken to a dark mode window with a blank thread. Start typing your message and, if you want to see it seconds later, don’t close the window. Because after you close it, all the messages will be erased.
This feature is not available to the big public yet, but only been used for Facebook employees until it gets to a final form, as now they just started building it and have access to an early version of it.
It is not yet known when they will release it publicly and won’t even give a timeline for it.
What do you think of the feature Facebook is about to release for Instagram? Do you think it will keep its users more engaged?
