1 Billion Monthly Users on Instagram

Starting this month (June 2018) there are 1 billion monthly users on Instagram. Reports say that last September there were 800M users, with 500M active daily users. What does this mean for Instagram and Facebook? Let’s see!
At a time when both Facebook and Snapchat has a really slow growth process, it seems that Instagram rises continuously. It might seem that Facebook will put all their efforts to sustain the growth and to offer new ways for people to interact and to showcase what they love.
A good way to celebrate this important milestone is the launch of IGTV. We have written several articles on this, but they were only based on rumors. Well, it all became true now.
Yesterday, they have made the announcement to several journalists and most of the rumors came true.

What does IGTV do?

IGTV is the new way of broadcasting long format video. It has nothing to do with productions on Netflix or HBO, but the video quality will be 4K.
If until now you could upload videos up to 60 seconds length, you will now be able to upload videos up to 1 hour. The format will be the same as for any other videos on mobile: vertical and full screen.

Who will be able to upload on IGTV?

Any user on the platform. If now they have partnered with superstars and influencers, it was only to give an example of how things should be done.

How does it work?

IGTV is a standalone app and the content starts running as soon as you open it. It also has channels, just as any other TV. You will be able to switch between “channels” which, in this case, are represented by the creators.
If you want to see more of what’s happening on IGTV, you just have to swipe up and discover 4 possibilities: “For you”, “Following”, “Popular” and “Continue watching”. If you like what you see, you can send a video to a friend within a Direct Message.

Wanting to change the future of video, Instagram has made a big step towards this by launching IGTV.
What do you think about the new IGTV app? Do you think it will be successful?
