It is well known that the major disease of this century is depression and people of any age fight with it. And, what’s more important, studies say that social networks have a great impact on spreading all kinds of instabilities. It seems that Snapchat, a social media network themselves, is trying to fight against depression, anxiety, cyberbullying, stress or grief.
Why are they doing this?
First of all, ever since its launch, Snapchat has believed in the fact that both photos and videos can better share a story than a simple text. They have also tried to create a safe environment where friends could share thoughts and get creative together. So every now and then they are launching new features that comply with data security or even have a social impact, such as the one we are talking about right now.
What is “Here for You”?
The latest feature Snapchat has released it called “Here for You” and, as we already said, it is a call for all the people that suffer from stress, anxiety, depression, bullying or any other difficulties related to those ones. The new Snapchat feature will be available throughout the next months to everyone in need.

How does it work?
When searching for a specific topic, such as anxiety, for example, users will get as results series of videos that focus on how to work with anxiety. They are from specialists, so you don’t have to worry about the source of information.
Those apply to both people suffering from those illnesses and also the others that want to help their friends who suffer, most of the time in silence.
So Snapchat seems to be the first one to realize they can make a change in what mental illnesses are concerned and take a step forward into doing something about it.
What’s your take on the relationship between mental illnesses and social networks?
