An Egg is the New Most-Liked Instagram Photo Ever

Instagram can be sometimes a weird place, where competitions take place, no matter the subject.

But this one that we want to share with you today has no reason, apparently. The owner of the account is unknown, so we might only guess why he did start this competition.

So what happened?

Let’s go back in time at the moment when Kylie Jenner gave birth to her daughter, Stormi and posted a photo on Instagram to announce the new awesome news she had for her fans. This was back in February 2018. In no time, her photo received 18 million likes. This was a record and the most-liked Instagram photo ever.

But in January 4st this year, someone out there posted a photo of an egg – we don’t know whether it was boiled or not – in order to break Kylie’s record. The account is called @world_record_egg. And the caption of the only photo on the feed says:

“Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”

One week after it has been posted, the photo already received over 18 million likes. But the hype got to Instagram users all over the world since the 13th of January and only one day later, the photo had more than 28 million likes, the number growing each minute, as people are sharing the post in their stories.

The message that the account owner posted in a story is:

“This is madness. What a time to be alive. Thank you so much for all your support and messages. I’m gonna try and get back to as many of you as possible. But for now I need to sleep. It doesn’t end here though, we’re only just getting started. #EggGang Mic drop.”

So what’s next for both the Egg and Kylie Jenner? Will the competition go even further and Kylie will put all her efforts into breaking the egg’s fame? Will the Egg find other fellows ingredients or objects to help him keep his record?

We may never know. This is mainly because, as we already said, we have no idea who is behind the account and what’s the reason for all this.

What are your guesses?
